In the Star Wars universe, one of the most beloved characters is undoubtedly Han Solo. He's the charming, roguish smuggler who helps Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in their fight against the Empire. But if you're a dedicated fan, you might have noticed something interesting about Han: he has a scar above his left eye.

The scar has been a topic of much speculation among Star Wars fans. Some have wondered if it was the result of a battle with a lightsaber-wielding opponent, while others have speculated that it was the result of an old injury from his days as a smuggler. So, what's the real story behind Han's scar?

The answer, it turns out, is a little bit of both. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, which includes novels, comics, and other media outside of the movies, it's revealed that Han got the scar in a fight with a bounty hunter named Bria Tharen. Han and Bria had been romantically involved in the past, but their relationship had soured, and Bria had become a bounty hunter working for the Rebel Alliance.

In the novel The Paradise Snare, which tells the story of Han's early years, Han and Bria cross paths on the planet Ylesia. Bria is on a mission to steal spice from the planet's ruling Hutts, and Han agrees to help her. But their plan goes awry when they're caught by the Hutts, and Bria is forced to reveal her true identity as a Rebel agent.

In the ensuing chaos, Han and Bria are separated, and Han is attacked by a group of Hutts. During the fight, he's hit in the face with a blaster bolt, which leaves him with a scar above his left eye. The injury is serious enough that Han temporarily loses his vision in that eye, but he eventually recovers.

Of course, the Star Wars Expanded Universe is no longer considered canon, thanks to Disney's acquisition of the franchise. So does that mean Han's scar has been retconned out of existence? Not necessarily.

In the recent Star Wars film Solo: A Star Wars Story, we see a young Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) working as a thief on the planet Corellia. In one scene, he's confronted by a gang of thugs who demand he hand over the loot he's stolen. During the ensuing scuffle, Han is hit in the face, and we see blood streaming down from his left eye. While we don't see a scar in this scene, it's possible that this injury could be the precursor to the scar we see in the original trilogy.

So while the exact story behind Han's scar may never be fully explained, it's clear that it's been a part of his character for a long time. Whether it's the result of a battle with a bounty hunter or a street fight on Corellia, the scar is just one more element that makes Han Solo such a memorable and beloved character in the Star Wars universe.
