Dale Jarrett is a retired American NASCAR driver who was born in Conover, North Carolina on November 26, 1956. He is the son of the famous NASCAR driver Ned Jarrett and the brother of the former NASCAR driver Glenn Jarrett. Dale Jarrett began his racing career in 1977 at Hickory Motor Speedway, where he won his first race in the Limited Sportsman division in 1978.
Jarrett made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 1984 at Martinsville Speedway, driving for Emanuel Zervakis. He then drove for a number of teams including Wood Brothers Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Robert Yates Racing. Jarrett won his first race in the Cup Series in 1991 at Michigan International Speedway, driving for Wood Brothers Racing.
In 1993, Jarrett joined Joe Gibbs Racing, where he won three races and finished third in the championship standings. He then moved to Robert Yates Racing in 1995, where he won the Daytona 500 in 1996 and the Cup Series championship in 1999. Jarrett won a total of 32 Cup Series races in his career, including three Daytona 500s.
After retiring from NASCAR in 2008, Jarrett became a television analyst for ESPN, where he worked until 2014. He then joined NBC Sports as a commentator for their NASCAR coverage. Jarrett was also inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014.
